ARPS Panel
My panel for the associateship of the Royal Photographic society, essentially a series of images taken in poor weather. They were presented as a set of 15 prints with a statement of intent:
My photographs have been inspired by the character and mood of those days when the weather keeps sensible folk indoors and sends the holiday makers running for cover. The images invite the viewer to explore and enjoy the different atmosphere that inclement weather can bring to a place; the quiet mystery of mist and fog as it blankets everything in a moist silence, the ethereal light of a cold winter’s day as the clouds creep towards the sun or the drama of dark, threatening skies and the sense of excitement and anticipation an approaching storm brings. Rain, with the added dimension of reflections and saturated colours adds its own beauty and, after the immediate urgency to escape the wet, brings with it a sense of melancholy and quiet contemplation. I hope my panel will encourage others to see the hidden appeal of those days when the sun doesn’t shine.
